Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd

  • 1981 – Yuasa Battery Sales (UK) Ltd (YBSUK) established in Swindon for the sales and distribution of Industrial Batteries in UK & Ireland.
  • 1981 – Yuasa Battery UK Ltd established (YBUK) in Ebbw Vale, UK. Manufacturing plant for VRLA Industrial batteries.
  • 1982 – Yuasa Battery (Europe) GmbH (YBEU) established in Dusseldorf for the sales and distribution of industrial batteries in Germany and the rest of Europe.
  • 1988 – Yuasa Corporation, Japan buys 50% share in the manufacturer Lucas Batteries Ltd in Birmingham, UK – becomes Lucas-Yuasa Batteries Ltd.
  • 1991 – Yuasa Batteries France (YBF) established in Lyon for the sales and distribution of Industrial Batteries in France.
  • 1993 – Yuasa Italy srl (YIS) established in Milan for the sales and distribution of Industrial Batteries in Italy.
  • 1997 – Yuasa Corporation buys remaining 50% share in Lucas-Yuasa Batteries Ltd – becomes Yuasa Automotive Batteries Europe Ltd (YABE). Yuasa continues to market the Lucas brand batteries under licence.
  • 2002 – Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd (YBEL) formed as parent company for all European sales companies (YBUK, YBSUK, YIS, YBEU, YBF)
  • 2002 – YABE acquires Tungstone, Oldham and Crompton battery brands and continues to manufacture and market them following Tungstone Battery’s decision to close its Market Harborough manufacturing site.
  • 2003 – Yuasa Batteries Iberia SA (YBIB) established in Madrid for the sales and distribution of Industrial and Automotive Batteries in Spain & Portugal.
  • 2004 – YBSUK relocate from Swindon to YBUK site in Ebbw Vale
  • 2006 – YABE stop production at their Birmingham manufacturing plant.
  • 2006 – YABE transfers all sales activities of Automotive batteries to YBEL. YABE stops trading.
  • 2006 – YBEL stops marketing the Lucas, Tungstone, Crompton and Oldham battery brands.v
  • 2006 – YBEL launches new Yuasa automotive aftermarket range
  • 2009 – YBEL add the complete Yuasa and GS motorcycle battery range to their product portfolio
  • 2009 – YBEL introduce Yuasa start-stop AGM and Hybrid Auxiliary batteries range as part of a Yuasa range refresh.
  • 2010 – Yuasa announce partnership with Honda Racing team in the British Touring Car Championship
  • 2010 – YBEL launch new GS brand Automotive batteries into the aftermarket.
  • 2010 – YBSUK relocates to new purpose built Sales & Distribution Centre in Swindon
  • 2011 – YBSUK celebrates 30 year anniversary
  • 2011 – YBUK celebrates 30 years manufacturing in the UK
  • 2012 – Yuasa are announced as title sponsors of the Honda Yuasa Racing Team in the British Touring Car Championship
  • 2012 – GS Yuasa International sets up Lithium-ion liaison office in Munich, Germany.
  • 2013 – YBEL launch new Yuasa YBX Automotive range with revolutionary Yuasa Online application and fitting system.v
  • 2013 – Yu-Fit Battery Configuration Tool launched for easy registration of new replacement batteries to the vehicle ECU.
  • 2014 – Lithium Energy and Power GmbH Co. KG established in Stuttgart, Germany. Joint venture between GS Yuasa, Bosch and Mitsubishi Corp. to develop next generation Lithium-ion battery technology.
  • 2014 – YBEL launch new GS Automotive range also with revolutionary GS Online application and fitting system.
  • 2014 – YBEL invests in Automotive sales, marketing and logistics infrastructure at it’s existing sales companies in Germany (YBEU), France (YBF) and Italy (YIS).
